Despite poor results in his first two races for the team, Red Bull Racing team principal Christian Horner still backs Pierre Gasly to perform in 2019, as he thinks the Frenchman has shown flashes of good driving already.

Gasly hasn't yet made it to Q3 for Red Bull, crashing out in Q1 and Q2 in Australia and Bahrain respectively. He even finished the Australian Grand Prix outside of the points in P11, but he did do well to finish eighth last weekend in Bahrain.

The 22-year-old has admitted he still doesn't feel comfortable in the RB15, but Horner thinks his overtaking in Sakhir will give him some confidence.

"Pierre drove a solid race to score his first points for the team, finishing eighth, and making good progress through the pack," Horner said.

"He displayed his race craft with a couple of bold overtaking moves, which will be good for his confidence, but the Safety Car at the end prevented him from progressing further as he was rapidly closing in on the cars ahead.”

Quoted by GPfans, Horner then admitted the RB15 is hard to drive.

"It seems to only work effectively in a very narrow range of settings.

"Max [Verstappen] has no particular problems with that, but it's quite clear that Pierre does. However, I'm sure he will eventually get on top of it."
