Despite securing a podium finish in Australia, Max Verstappen believes that his team will not know their true standing until after China. Having changed engine suppliers it was thought that it would take a few races for Red Bull to pick up race winning pace. this weekend in Bahrain Verstappen will have a harder time keeping the Ferrari's behind him.

"Starting the season with a podium in Australia is really positive but Melbourne is not a typical circuit, so we can’t get carried away,” he said to planetf1.com.

“I don’t think we will really know where we stand until after China.”

“I enjoy the track and the transition from day to night is a challenge in terms of car balance so that always makes it an interesting weekend,” Verstappen said.

“You never really know where you stand when you start qualifying because you haven’t had the optimal preparation as the track conditions aren’t the same during practice.

The middle sector, which is quite technical, is the best part of the Bahrain circuit and I hope it’s good for racing again this year.”

Verstappens teammate Pierre Gasly will hope to finish better than he did last race and having finished 4th in Bahrain last season things are looking positive for the Frenchman. There seems to be a positive atmosphere around Red Bull and they believe that they can do well this season.
