Former McLaren driver Stoffel Vandoorne has insisted he is not keeping an eye on his former team's progress now he is at Mercedes.

The Belgian driver was axed by the Woking-side at the end of last season, with Lando Norris taking Vandoorne's place as a McLaren Formula 1 driver.

However, Mercedes offered Vandoorne a role as its simulation driver, as well as representing the Silver Arrows in this season's Formula E Championship.

Vandoorne was part of an underwhelming 2018 season for McLaren, being outperformed by his then team-mate, Fernando Alonso in virtually every race on the F1 calendar.

But when asked by AS, whether he's been tracking his former employer's progress during the 2019 season, Vandoorne answered: "No. Now I work for Mercedes, so I know it went very well for us."

The 26-year-old continued with his comments and started to speak about his time in Formula E so far, insisting he is enjoying every moment of the all-electric series.

"This is where I want to be, and where I want to have a strong future," Vandoorne added on Formula E. "HWA will become Mercedes next year and I want to be part of it. That is my goal, to be a champion here.

"I think it's impossible to say the name of a driver who doesn't deserve to be here. In F1, of course there are very, very good drivers, but also some drivers that are, let's say, not as good."
