After Daniil Kvyat left Formula 1 in 2017, few would have expected him to ever return to the sport. However, a space at Toro Rosso opened up due to Pierre Gasly being promoted to Red Bull. Kvyat is certain that he is going to make the most of this opportunity and that he has returned a more mature driver and person.

“I feel like it’s a fresh start,” said Kvyat to the official Formula 1 website, “a good opportunity to be a better driver, a better person, and I think that’s exactly what I’ve tried to work on.”

The Russian performed well in his first race of the season as he managed to keep the Red Bull of Gasly behind him.

“I had a good battle with Pierre towards the end of the race,” said Kvyat. “I felt like I could fight him well and at the end, it was satisfying to keep a quicker car behind almost the whole race.

“I know we have a good package with the car and the engine, so we need to keep developing it. I’m very optimistic for the next few races and I think it’s possible to achieve good results.”

Toro Rosso will hope that they can regularly score points this season and Kvyat will hope that he can hold onto his seat for next season as well.
