Mick Schumacher is touted as one of the biggest prospects in motorsport for obvious reasons but the upcoming driver insists being compared to his F1 legend father has never been an issue.

Very little has been heard about Michael Schumacher since his tragic skiing accident in 2013 but his son Mick has risen to prominence in recent times and he is set to race in F2 in 2019. The German won European Formula 3 last season and will race at Prima racing in the upcoming season.

Plenty is expected of the 19-year-old but he shrugged off the comparison with his father in an interview with the BBC.

"Being compared to my father was never a problem for me," Schumacher said.

"Being compared to the best driver in F1 history is the goal you want to achieve and to have that as my idol and father is very special.

"I feel honoured to be compared to him because I just learn and try to improve."

Mick joined the Ferrari driver academy over the winter and believes he can learn a lot from the setup.

"I can learn very much from Ferrari because they have so much experience and I will want to work with them to achieve the maximum I can,” he said in an interview on the Prema Racing YouTube channel.
