Reigning champion Lewis Hamilton has explained why he wants Valtteri Bottas to stay even though Esteban Ocon could be replacing the Finn, as Hamilton thinks continuity is the most important factor in F1.

Bottas joined Mercedes in 2017 after Nico Rosberg's sudden retirement at the end of 2016. The Finn won three races in his debut season at the Silver Arrows, but didn't manage to win any races in 2018, prompting a lot of criticism for the 29-year-old.

With Esteban Ocon now being Mercedes' reserve driver, a lot of people think the Frenchman could be replacing Bottas in the future if he underperforms.

However, Bottas' teammate  Hamilton like his teammate, as the Brit thinks the pairing of the two has worked well.

"Continuity is what works," Hamilton explained when asked by FormulaPassion if he'd prefer Ocon over Bottas.

“We have a great pairing and I think the combination of Valtteri and me together has worked well for years and there’s no reason to change it.

“If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it,” the five-time world champion concluded.
