Haas driver Kevin Magnussen has said if he had a crystal ball that told him he'd never win a world championship, then he would quit Formula 1 altogether.

Magnussen will start his fifth season in F1 next weekend in Australia, as the 2019 campaign gets underway.

The Dane will be competing in his third with Haas after a year at McLaren and then Renault respectively beforehand - with the strange stat of his best position a debut podium finish in Australia with McLaren.

Magnussen has ruled out a push to F1's top three of Red Bull, Ferrari and Mercedes this season, and has accepted Haas will be fighting in the midfield.

The 26-year-old has revealed to GP Fans last week in Barcelona, that if he knew he would never win the world championship, then he'd find something different to do rather than F1.

"If I knew that we'd only finish fourth and that I'd never win a world championship, if you could see into the future and you told me 'you won't win ever', then I'd go to do something else that I can be successful in," the Dane said.

"None of us come here and work our asses off to finish fourth, but that's the target this year. You can't say 'OK, I didn't win so I'll go home', of course you need to try but you need to understand there is a process and a road to success."
