Jackie Stewart has praised Max Verstappen for the way in which he has established himself at the pinnacle of motorsport.

Verstappen won two Grand Prix’s in 2018 and was so close to a third but was denied by a collision with Esteban Ocon.

Speaking to F1 Fan Voice Stewart admitted the sport needed revitalizing saying: "The Grand Prix Sport needs fresh air.”

Verstappen became the youngest driver to compete in Formula 1 at the 2015 Australian Grand Prix and the Dutchman has only kicked on from there.

"It's the way he has risen and how quickly he has established himself with great performances.” Said Stewart.

Stewart did, however, admit that more and more young drivers like Verstappen are failing to make the grade because of the financial challenges getting to the top entails.

"It has become more difficult for drivers to get to the top because most are struggling to raise the necessary money.”

Speaking on whether companies should take more interest in F1  to help this issue Stewart said: “We drive a car - it does not matter whether he gets into a Fiat or a Ferrari in the morning - car companies would have to recognize the advertising value of Formula One."
