Renault's power unit development leaves Zak Brown feeling encouraged

McLaren's Zak Brown is feeling encouraged after reading Renault's 2019 power unit development report. McLaren will begin their second season with the Renault engine in the back, as they look to escape the current "low spot" they find themselves in.

"We're very happy with Renault. We have a very good relationship with them. I got my report [in Abu Dhabi] on how next year's power unit is coming along, and that's very encouraging," Brown told Formula 1.

McLaren totalled the sixth highest lap counter in 2018, finishing less than 100 laps from fourth most Force India. When switching from Honda, McLaren was desperately in search of a reliable engine and Brown believes their hunt was successful.

“They’ve given us a reliable engine this year, and so it’s going well we’re happy with the decision that we’ve made, we’re very happy with Renault, I think we’ll benefit from having two teams on the grid next year, so they’ll be focused on ourselves and themselves, and excited to have a long-term future with them," Brown added.
