Lando Norris will make his competitive Formula One debut for McLaren next season, and the young British driver has revealed that the Woking-based team have a completely different approach for the 2019 campaign.

McLaren finished in sixth place in 2018, with 62 points, but were 31 points behind fifth placed Force India.

Norris will replace Stoffel Vandoorne in 2019, with the Belgian making the switch to Formula E after two harsh seasons in F1.

"They are now focusing on making sure 100% of the time that new parts really have a positive effect," Norris told Motorsport-Total. "Not like this year, when some things were not that good after all, the focus now is on getting a new part really 100 per cent better, rather than saying that it looks like it's better and it's just that they can understand a lot better now, but of couse it can only show the time."

Norris has been testing for McLaren in Abu Dhabi and he has given his thoughts on how it felt to be behind the wheel of the MCL33 again.

"It was definitely different," he said. "Not that it was more pressure, it was more like that It was clear to me that everything I did was good for myself, driving in free practice is the same, but what has changed for me is working with the team and the engineers, focus more on me instead of working with Fernando and Stoffel.
