Ericsson keen to show Sauber "what they're missing"

Marcus Ericsson recorded his best ever qualifying result yesterday at Interlagos, being the best driver outside the top three teams and grabbed seventh in the session.

He will be bumped up to sixth after Daniel Ricciardo’s five place grid penalty for changing a turbocharger, which will be his highest ever starting position in his five years in Formula One.

The Swede is on his way to IndyCar after missing out on a seat in F1 next year, with Kimi Raikkonen and Antonio Giovinazzi preferred to him for 2019.

Despite being overlooked, Ericsson wants to leave on a high after four years with Sauber.

He said: “I’m leaving after Abu Dhabi, but I want to leave on a high and I want to show what the team is missing.

“I scored points the last two weekends, now P7 today. I need to keep doing that to really go out on a high, and then I have an exciting thing going for next year as well.”
