Alonso fuming: Level of F1 drivers "lower than ever"

After being the victim of yet another first-lap collision, Fernando Alonso has hit out at the talent in the back of the grid, with the Spaniard claiming that the level of talent in F1 is currently "lower than ever".

With just four races left in his F1 career before the USA Grand Prix started in Austin, Alonso vowed to make the best of it even though he started at the back of the grid. Then, he got involved in an accident as Lance Stroll drove into his MCL33, leaving him with massive damage to the right side of his car. He pitted to assess the damage but never emerged from the pitlane - he was forced to retire.

That, and a callback to Spa Francorchamps when he got nailed from the back by Nico Hülkenberg who completely forgot to brake, is probably what caused him to hit out at the entire grid in the twilight of his career as he claims that the talent is not what it used to be.

"The level [of drivers] seems lower than ever," he was quoted by RaceFans.

"In Spa they played bowling with us in the first corner, here they played bowling again into turn four.

"It’s a misjudgement of distances and speed which is quite strange to see."
