Leclerc to drive Ferrari for 2018 Pirelli tyre test

Charles Leclerc will drive the Ferrari 2018 car in a Pirelli tyre test taking place at the Paul Ricard circuit. The test will be carried out alongside rivals Mercedes. This is the first time Leclerc, who will compete it red next season, will drive the 2018 Ferrari car.

The test will begin tomorrow and be completed on Friday. It's the final test before the 2019 constructions have to be signed off with the FIA.

Leclerc will join his new team-mate Sebastian Vettel and Valtteri Bottas.

"We are testing at Paul Ricard for two days," Mario Isola said in an interview on motorsport.

"We are still developing the product for next year. The test is as usual blind for them. We are evaluating a number of constructions, and we are evaluating also some new compounds.

"In terms of construction we are at the end of our development because October 1 is our deadline to supply the data for the new construction, so it's final validation."

The two remaining tests take place after the Japanese GP (with Renault) and after the Mexican GP (with Sauber). Following the final race of the season, all teams will use the new tyres on the track in Abu Dhabi.

"The fact that we have all the teams involved means that we can understand on different cars how the tyres are working. It's always the best solution," the Pirelli F1 boss added.
