Sebastian Vettel is very disappointed with his result in Singapore, as the German could not gain any places in the end and had to settle for third place, meaning Lewis Hamilton is now 40 points ahead of him in the championship race.

Things were looking up for Vettel at the start of the race, as he made quick work of overtaking Max Verstappen to take second place from the Dutchman. However, when it was time to pit, Ferrari made a strategic error, bolting on ultrasofts on Vettel's car. He came out well behind Hamilton, and couldn't catch up, despite the Brit being on harder tyres.

Verstappen re-took second as well, as the Dutchman just squeezed in front of Vettel after he pitted for softs. It was third place for Vettel in the end, which is not enough for the man who was expected to run the show all weekend long.

"Overall we were not fast enough, we didn't have the pace in the race," he told David Coulthard.

"We tried to be aggressive in the beginning and obviously, it didn't work out.

"Pitting was no option so we just focused on making it home.

"I'm mostly thinking about today's race [and not the title], and with the way we raced today we didn't have a chance.

"I said before the weekend we could only beat ourselves and I think today we didn't get everything out of our package."
