Sebastien Buemi has played down recent rumours that suggest the Swiss driver could return to the Toro Rosso team he last raced for back in 2011. Buemi has enjoyed a large amount of success in Formula E and WEC, but a return to F1 doesn't appear to be a part of his future according to the man himself.

Speaking to Sky Sports F1 ahead of the Singapore Grand Prix, Buemi reasserted the position that he was just the reserve driver for both Red Bull and Toro Rosso and that a deal was not in place for him to return to the Toro Rosso team for next season.

“I’m the reserve driver for Red Bull and Toro Rosso,” Buemi said. “That is why I am here this weekend (in Singapore).

“Normally I am in the simulator but this weekend I am here.

“I’m just doing what they asked me to do and they wanted me to have a seat fit.

“Of course I need to have a seat just in case something happens to one of the other drivers and that is all I can say so far.

“My programmes in the WEC and Formula E are already lined up, everything is possible in that world but of course I am just focusing on my reserve role here and we’ll see.”

The 29-year old won the Formula E world championship back in the 2015/16 season and has been a mainstay in the Toyota World Endurance Championship team since leaving Formula One, winning the 2018 Le Mans 24 Hours alongside Fernando Alonso and Kazuki Nakajima.
