Sauber boss Frederick Vasseur believes that his team are going in the right direction this season with big improvements.

Sauber have made an obvious improvement this campaign, but boss Frederick Vasseur knows that with improvement comes pressure and higher expectations.

The Swiss team are now looking like a midfield contender, and in twelve races, Sauber have got 150% more points than they have in the last two seasons combined.

This could be down to a couple of factors - an increase in its technical collaboration with Ferrari and the rise of youngster Charles Leclerc - who, with some excellent results this season, has put Sauber heading in the right direction.

"Yes, I think we are on a good path," Vasseur told F1i.com.

"If you compare with the beginning of the season and the first part of the season - not only Melbourne - but I think we improved a lot, more than 1.5 percent compared to the front of the field. It's a huge step foward for us now.

"But I know perfectly that the more you move forward the more the steps are difficult.

"It's good to have expectation because it's the best way to put some pressure on the team, to put some pressure on the guys, on the drivers - and this is the key point for the team."
