Haas has admitted that they have switched focus from their 2018 machine onto the 2019 car instead. Haas is experiencing their most competitive season so far, with their Ferrari engine upgrades providing a further boost to the team as of late to add to their points in the constructor standings.

Currently sitting in fifth in the championship, Haas had been worried that development of their 2018 car wouldn't be good enough to keep pace with their rivals. However, according to Today.net, team principal Gunther Steiner admitted to setting their sights on the 2019 car rather than continue development with the VF-18.

"We decided. We are doing the ’19 car. We have to because otherwise you fall too far behind. And also when you look at our car now in the midfield we are quite solid so it’s no point to keep on working on this one because we have to look at the future.

"We make developments and we will bring them to the car in the next races. They are smaller ones. In the wind tunnel, we are developing the ’19 car."

The majority of Haas' points this season have been scored by Kevin Magnussen, with Romain Grosjean largely underperforming throughout the year in comparison to his Danish teammate. Neither drive is nailed on for a 2019 drive however, with rumours of Charles Leclerc possibly being promoted to Haas rather than make the immediate jump to Ferrari that has been touted.
