Ricciardo: Red Bull must qualify on the front row

Daniel Ricciardo insists that Red Bull must qualify on the front row to have a chance of winning the Hungarian Grand Prix. This time last week it was confirmed the Australian would start from the back of the grid in Germany.

Following the two practice sessions today, Mercedes and Ferrari, in particular, were faster than expected. Sebastian Vettel finished fastest in FP2 while in FP1 he was just 0.079s behind Max Verstappen.

Ricciardo believes his engineers will be able to find extra speed in the car tomorrow.

"Mercedes always know how to find just that little bit more during qualifying, just like Ferrari. And Ferrari looks incredibly fast on Friday.

"I think we can find a few more tenths on the track itself, as my lap wasn't perfect yet. Getting to the front row would be ideal, but the second row is not a disaster either."

The 29-year-old will start the race with an older engine as the new one he used in Germany didn't work. Red Bull do not want to get a penalty this weekend on a track that suits their car.
