Lewis Hamilton has issued a warning to his title rival Sebastian Vettel that he will not be the one to crack under the pressure of the title fight. Hamilton took victory in Germany after Vettel crashed out of the lead of his home grand prix in the tricky conditions at Hockenheim, in the process losing the lead to the Mercedes man.

Speaking ahead of this weekend's Hungarian Grand Prix to the media, Hamilton said that the fight for five world titles means that there is an enormous amount of pressure but he would be the one to keep his cool.

“With the pressure we are under, I really work hard to position myself mentally and physically to be the last to crack.

"It’s not easy but I am happy with where it is right now.”

Whilst the German Grand Prix should have been the Sebastian Vettel show, his crash meant that the championship swung back the other way yet again, with the lead of the driver standings swapping five times already this season as we reach the summer break.

Whilst the victory at Hockenheim was difficult due to his qualifying hydraulic failure, this weekend in Budapest will be an altogether different challenge for Mercedes against their rivals.

“This is a tough track, very hot. The way the corners are laid out has not in the past been good for our car package.

“Our car likes to be on a more open circuit, more high-speed, downforce-dependent corners. This is mostly medium and low speed so it will be interesting.

“We’ve got the Red Bulls. It is not a power circuit and they are quite often close. Ferrari were quickest last year. But maybe tomorrow we will get in the car and we will have great pace, and the car will work really well here.”
