Max Verstappen completed a Friday sweep for Red Bull as he set an all-time track record with a 1:13.085 to go fastest in free practice two. He was fastest ahead of the Mercedes pair with Lewis Hamilton second and Valtteri Bottas third.

A session that was slow to get going, Vettel was the first of the big names to get a lap in, going a second clear until the rest of the familiar faces got their times in.

Max Verstappen’s second run on soft tyres was enough to go ahead of both Mercedes drivers who got their runs in a little after the first flurry of activity.

Daniel Ricciardo eventually left the garage after half an hour, Red Bull opting to work on his race set-up with his grid penalty in mind.

Ultrasoft runs started with Vettel going fastest but only finding 0.3s from his run on the medium compound tyres, high track temperatures could be behind that lack of improvement as the conditions were blistering on Friday.

Mistakes from Raikkonen also meant we didn’t see the best from either of the Ferrari drivers, Bottas and Hamilton immediately displacing them at the top, with the latter setting a new track record in the process.

That record was then broken by Verstappen, the only Red Bull bothering with a qualifying sim. He hit problems later in the session though, reporting a gear shift problem before returning to the pits and getting out of the car for the rest of the session.

It looks as though, should conditions remain sunny and dry, teams may favour the medium compound in the race over the ultrasofts which were blistering too quickly. The weather forecast for the remainder of the weekend looks to be cooler with the small chance of storms during qualifying and the race.
