Verstappen not a fan of potential points change

Over the last few weeks, there’s been lots of talk regarding the proposed changes in race points. It’s possible that points could be given across the whole grid regardless of where you finish. Another proposed idea is that the number of drivers getting will extend to 15.

Max Verstappen has confirmed he is against these plans as it takes away a challenging aspect for the lower teams.

“In the past, only the first six drivers got points and then that was changed to ten drivers. For a racing driver, it must be a goal to get to the points. In any case, I am not impressed when a driver receives points while he finishes nineteenth,” he told motorsport.

The Dutchman also spoke about the race formats being altering, including the introduction of a sprint race. But it seems Verstappen is adamant for things not to change.

“I think it’s fine now. A sprint race has no added value, just one main race as it always has been. The argument that fans do not understand the Friday is of course also crooked. Then they’ll be fine on Saturday and Sunday, even better for the wallet,” he added.
