Ricciardo will start the Germany Grand Prix from the back of the grid

Daniel Ricciardo is set to start the German Grand Prix from the back of the grid after his team opted to ‘take a hit’. Red Bull have changed plenty of power unit components forcing the FIA to give him numerous penalties.

The Australian finished top of the timesheets in this mornings practice session proving the RB14 might have the pace to do some damage in Germany. His team-mate Max Verstappen backed him up finishing third.

The FIA confirmed his car had been fitted with a new MGU-K, control electronics and energy store. The team would rather take the changes here at Hockenheim than in Hungary where they are typically much stronger.

Ricciardo is prepared for the overtakes he will have to do in order to get back him into race contention.

“You can overtake so if we do have the penalties and start towards the back, I’ll stay positive and know that there will be some good overtaking. Ideally, we win next weekend [in Hungary] and suck it up here,” Ricciardo told F1.
