Ferrari test brand-new exhaust system in FP1

This morning during FP1, Ferrari trialled a brand-new exhaust system. The Italian team continue their strong push to keep developing their car in order to remain ahead of Mercedes.

Sebastian Vettel is running with the newer version while Kimi Raikkonen drives with the old, tried and tested exhaust.

The new exhaust design matches the new rear wing design. The changes could be made as to generate extra exhaust blowing. But the FIA tend to prevent teams from gaining any sort of aerodynamic advantage gained from exhaust gases.

Vettel finished FP1 in fourth place, behind both Red Bull’s and rival Lewis Hamilton. Kimi Raikkonen finished in 6th behind Bottas, but it is unclear what type of fuel loads the reds were running with. They tend to improve speed in FP2 making this afternoon’s session interesting!
