Lewis Hamilton reveals a rival did come in for him, but the world champion never even considered leaving Mercedes.

Lewis Hamilton yesterday signed a new two-year contract extension at Mercedes - with his contract due to run out at the end of the season.

The contract saga has gone on for what feels like forever, with both parties being very stubborn with their negotiations.

Asked if Ferrari or Red Bull came in for him, the world champion said: "In terms of the other guys approaching, one did, but I didn't give it any air.

"You can make whatever assumption you want," Hamilton said when asked if that team was Ferrari.

Hamilton revealed that he already spoke to Mercedes boss Toto Wolff that he wouldn't be leaving the Silver Arrows and he wouldn't consider another offer, early on in the negotiations.

"Toto is a great human being and a great manager. We have got a great relationship, and it has gone from strength to strength," said Hamilton to PlanetF1.com.

"We have had our ups and downs as every relationship does, and it has gone from strength to strength.

"Most people would not have been given the timeframe I chose to take, but the one thing that shows is the trust we have between each other.

"I said from day one, 'I am not looking anywhere else, I'm not talking to anyone else, I am not investigating to see what other options there are, i'm not playing you aganst anybody else.

"While I know there are drivers calling you, which I expect, I also trust you are not thinking to do anything else, so we can take our time."
