Vettel: No rush for Leclerc to make Ferrari switch

Sebastian Vettel believes there is no rush for Charles Leclerc to make the step up to Ferrari. The rookie has been impressing the F1 world with his strong performances in the Sauber this season and, up until Silverstone, was on a points scoring streak.

It has led to Leclerc being linked with the seat alongside Vettel at Ferrari for 2019, a move which whilst uncharacteristic of Ferrari to promote a young driver into the main team could feasibly happen.

Vettel however maintains that there isn't a rush for Leclerc to make the switch just yet. Ahead of his home grand prix, Vettel told the media that he was happy with the current Ferrari line-up.

“I’d be happy to continue like that but it’s not for me to decide.

“I think Charles, one way or the other, will have a great career, he’s a great guy, he’s fast, he’s got everything.

“I mean he has no rush, he’s young but if you’re younger you’re always in a rush with everything.

“I don’t know when, what and ultimately who (will be at Ferrari).

“But it doesn’t really matter to me, I think it’s clear where I am next year, both of them would suit (being) at the team.”
