Hamilton: "FIA screwed me out of Spa 2008 win"

Lewis Hamilton's lost win in the 2008 Belgian Grand Prix at Spa still causes controversy ten years on.

Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton was at McLaren at the time, but technically finished in third place after the stewards punished Hamilton for an incident with Kimi Raikkonen.

Hamilton collided with a chicane and when he rejoined he was in front of Raikkonen, the Brit allowed Raikkonen to overtake him out of sportsmanship, but then took over him in the next corner.

In the final classification, the stewards penalised Hamilton and he finished in third place.

Hamilton was given a 25-second penalty for the incident, for "cutting the chicane and gaining an advantage", according to the stewards. Felipe Massa incidentally achieved a surprise win, in front of Nick Heidfield - with Lewis in third.

"Don't let the FIA screw you in Spa," Hamilton told the official Formula One website.

"You've got to be careful.

"They will say it's OK for you to let Kimi by and that you've done enough. And at the end of the race they will not let you keep that win.

"So you have to do double, you have to do more. Let Kimi by and give him a good margin so they can't use it as an excuse."

FIA rejected Hamiltn's appeal against the penalty on the grounds that it couldn't be appealed against.\
