Nico Hulkenberg set for home Grand Prix return

Nico Hulkenberg steps towards his home Grand Prix on the positive foot after an impressive performance at Silverstone last time out. He went for an innovative tyre strategy using both medium and hard sets allowing him to finish in the 'best of the rest' position.

The German Grand Prix wasn't included in the 2017 season due to various reasons. Hulkenberg is ready for his long-awaited return to his home fans.

"It's very special to have the German Grand Prix back on the calendar. A home race is extremely motivating, as you carry that extra ounce of determination to do well in front of the home fans," Hulkenberg said in an interview on pitpass.

The Renault driver won't be the only home driver this weekend. Sebastian Vettel, we feel, will have the majority of the support as he looks to enhance his lead in the drivers' championship.

The 30-year-old is buzzing and looking forward to driving on the track. He expresses his feelings about the favourite parts of the track he loves.

"I enjoy this track a lot, and this year with the increased downforce cars, it will be even more fun," Hulkenberg added.

"It begins with a high-speed turn one, which is going to be quicker than ever in 2018, and then turn two, which is actually an important corner as you need to combine a high minimum speed while getting on the power early to open up the long, curved straight. You need good traction out of the hairpin, which is also the best overtaking spot on race day."

It's clear the German is excited ahead of next weekend. But I'm sure he's enjoying his first weekend off for almost a month!
