Sergio Perez has praised the Silverstone stewards over their decision to penalise Pierre Gasly.

Stewards are receiving a lot of criticism following the weekend from all angles.

However, Force India's Sergio Perez appears to be a fan of the Silverstone stewards.

Gasly and Perez were in a battle late on in the British Grand Prix and this led to the Toro Rosso man colliding with Perez and forcing the Mexican off the track.

As a result, the Frenchman was handed a five-second penalty and this dropped him down into 13th place and Perez consequently finished in the points in P10.

Gasly was absolutely furious when he took to his Instagram page after the race, calling the penalty handed to him, "bullsh**".

"With two laps to go, Gasly pushed me off track," Perez said to PlanetF1.

"I gave him enough space but that was not enough: we still made contact and I lost the place.

"I believe it was an unfair move. I'm pleased that the FIA took action after the race to penalise Gasly, which gave me back the final point."

Despite Perez marginally getting tenth place on Sunday, the Mexican driver is not completely satisfied with his own performance and result.

"I cannot be totally happy about the race," Perez admitted.

"The incident at the start compromised my race: I lost my rear end trying to avoid the incidents ahead, spun and suddenly I was at the back of the field.

"After that, our race was pretty strong. We had good pace and overtook a lot of cars.

"We made the most of the various safety cars and made it back into the points."
