Hulkenberg fears Haas fightback for 'best of the rest' place

Hulkenberg fears Haas fightback for 'best of the rest' place

Nico Hulkenberg reveals he is more fearful of Haas since their sudden revival. He believes they have now overtaken McLaren in the battle for fourth place in the constructors' championship.

Haas kept tripping over themselves in the early parts of the season, but a strong double points score in Austria, and good pace around Silverstone has given Renault something to worry about.

After the French Grand Prix, Renault admitted they had plans to move focus to the 2019 car as early as possible. But it's Haas that are standing up against them in 2018. The two teams are now separated by 19 points.

Hulkenberg was asked by crash if Haas are providing the strongest threat to his French team and he said: "It looks like it now."

"I think its shifted around with Haas coming through more and McLaren seem to have lost out a little bit.

"We take them seriously because they are fast. How they got there doesn't really play a role for me, they are strong at the moment, and we just have to deal with it."

Since their run of three consecutive double points finishes ending in France, Renault have picked up just eight points. Compare this to the 24 points Haas have scored, and there's plenty to worry about.

Hulkenberg went on to talk about momentum, something which he'll be hoping swings towards him sooner rather than later.

"The momentum sometimes swings around, but at the end of the day they have a strong car and a good package."
