Stoffel Vandoorne thinks that he's shown enough to McLaren that he's capable of driving for them next season.

Vandoorne only made the step up to F1 full-time in 2017, after being with McLaren through his junior career.

This season has been eventful to say the least, for McLaren.

So perhaps this isn't the best season for Vandoorne to express his true talents.

Vandoorne has struggled compared to his McLaren team mate Fernando Alonso.

The Belgian is the only man yet to out-qualify the Spaniard and Vandoorne's only got 8 points compared to Alonso's 40 points.

"I think it's the time of the year where everyone talks to everyone," Vandoorne said about his future.

"Before the summer break is usually a moment everyone speaks about the driver market and yeah, that's kind of normal.

"We've never really discussed that with the media, so I'm not really going to go into that."

Vandoorne was then asked whether he has done enough to persuade McLaren to offer him a new deal:

"I think so yeah, I'm pretty sure."

Vandoorne says that the setbacks that he's faced in his career so far has made him a better driver and he claims he is feeling the benefits of it this season.

"For sure it's not been a year and a half I was hoping to have in F1," he said.

"Ultimately we've been struggling a lot in terms of the results, we've had both years a car that struggled to fight for points let's say."
