Renault aiming to make Red Bull "regret" their 2019 engine deal with Honda

Renault have announced they are aiming to make Red Bull “regret” their 2019 engine deal with Honda. Red Bull have used Renault engines for the previous 12 seasons.

Cyril Abiteboul wants to use this switch as fuel for Renault to improve next season in an attempt at beating their now rivals.

“We will do everything we can to make them regret this decision,” Abiteboul told Autosport.

“What I mean by that is simply doing the best we can on track with our own team under our own colours.

“I am extremely excited by the performance improvement to come, in particular with ‘spec C’ which we will introduce later this season.”

A fired up Abiteboul seemed rather spiteful when asked if they will send the upgrade to Red Bull later this season.

“At this point in time there is no reason to think Red Bull will not be receiving it, although we are yet to confirm details of the engine allocation plan,” added Abiteboul.

Renault will now have just one customer team and look straight away to develop what they need for next season.

"It was important for us to get clarity of their plans for next year so we could take appropriate measures,” added Abiteboul.
