Renault team principal Cyril Abiteboul has admitted that Honda has indeed made significant progress when it comes to power, but he still sees his own team as the better engine manufacturer.

Abiteboul insists that Renault is delivering on all the expectations it set at the start of the season.

"We know exactly what [our engines] are providing and they are providing what we advertised they would a few weeks, if not a few months ago," the Frenchman told F1i.

"We can guarantee an equity of performance of what is in our control, which is hardware, which is software.

"Not anything other than that, like fuel."

When discussing said engines and what they provide, Abiteboul also conceded that Honda have gotten their act together pretty significantly, as their latest upgrade in Canada has edged the Japanese engine that much closer to Renault. That could make things interesting for Red Bull, who have yet to decide who they'll be partnering up with as an engine partner for future years.

"We see from top speed we've been very competitive, we also see a bit of a step from Honda," Abiteboul said.
