Red Bull motorsports boss Dr Helmut Marko has said that the "stupid critics" will stop after Max Verstappen's performance in Canada, as the Dutchman got third place in what was a good weekend for him.

After having some form of incident in every race weekend up until Canada, Verstappen was under increasing pressure from the media. In Montréal, he was clearly out to prove the world wrong and he put in a good shift throughout all three days.

"Generally for the whole team it's a real relief to have both cars in the finish," Marko admitted to Motorsport.com after the race.

"One podium, one fourth.

"And also, for Max, all these stupid critics are stopping.

"He did the best time in practice three times, he qualified third, and he didn't do anything wrong, not one little bit of damage, not even a rim.

"So that's what we expect from him, and I'm sure there will come more races like that."

Next up, after the 24 Hours of Le Mans this weekend, will be the French Grand Prix. Let's see if Verstappen can replicate his form there.
