Max Verstappen and Red Bull mutually agreed to change who accompanies Verstappen ahead of the Canadian Grand Prix. The Dutchman is usually with father and former F1 driver Jos Verstappen, but he wasn’t in Canada.

Horner went on to admit that Verstappen had a good weekend and discussed whether or not the change helped his driver prepare for the race.

“It’s the first race he’s ever done on his own, and it’s just something different,” Horner said in an interview on Motorsport week.

“Whether it has contributed in any way is impossible to say. He’s still evolving and maturing as a driver and gains more experience.”

Coming away from Monaco, Christian suggested that Verstappen should hit the reset button after costing Red Bull plenty of points through the opening part of the season. And perhaps this was his way of doing it.

“It was something that was discussed with him, it was something agreed between him and the team,” added Horner.

“He’s been very immersed in everything that he’s been doing this weekend and he’s done a super job, so all credit to him for putting together a very strong race and finishing within a tenth of Valtteri.”
