Mario Isola believes he and his team made the correct decision to reduce the tread on the tyres for the Spanish Grand Prix

Pirelli reduced the tread by 0.4mm as a result of blistering and graining experienced during pre-season testing on the same, freshly resurfaced track.

All the front-runners except Sebastian Vettel ran a 1-stop race proving that the tyres worked really well. Isola reflected on the performance of the tyres whilst speaking to motorsport.com.

“If you have a high level of blistering affecting all or most of the cars, you have a lottery, not a race,” Isola said.

“It’s not the right approach and we, as a sole supplier, have to provide the same product to everyone that is a safe product, suitable for the circuit and so on.

“I don’t think that the slightest modification in the tread thickness changes the balance of the performance of different cars.”

The reduced tread will be run again in two other Grands Prix. This includes the come back of the French Grand Prix later on in the summer.
