Sunday sees two of motorsport's most iconic races take place as Formula 1's Monaco GP is followed by the Indianapolis 500.

The two races, along with the Le Mans 24 Hour, make up motorsport's Triple Crown and the late Graham Hill is the only man to win all three.

The Monaco GP is regarded as the jewel in Formula 1's crown for the glitz and glamour that surround the race in addition to the close proximity of the barriers on the legendary street circuit.

When's the Monaco GP on Sky Sports F1?

The race is widely regarded as the ultimate test for the drivers and the circuit is one of only four to have been ever present on the calendar from the original 1950 season. It also deviates from the traditional grand prix weekend, with the first two practice sessions taking place on Thursday rather than Friday.

"Everyone's heard of Monaco. It's almost a synonymous word for grand prix racing," Sky F1's Damon Hill said. "It's one of the great challenges, but also one of the great social events of our sporting calendar."

The Indy 500 takes place over the Memorial Day weekend in the USA and comprises of 200 laps (500 miles) of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway's famous oval track.

This year's 101st running of the Indy 500 has received greater attention due to Fernando Alonso's decision to skip Monaco, where he has won twice, to take part in the American race as he seeks to match Hill's achievement of completing the Triple Crown.

"This is probably the biggest race in the world," Alonso said last week. "To have the opportunity to experience this event is something any racing driver should have the opportunity to feel."

The Le Mans 24 Hour is the oldest race in endurance racing, having been established in 1923, and sees teams have to balance speed with mechanical reliability. The race is held at the Circuit de la Sarthe with this year's event taking place over the weekend of June 17-18.

Nico Hulkenberg was the most recent F1 driver to be part of a winning team at Le Mans, helping Porsche to victory in 2015.
