The Mexican hit the barriers while trying to navigate the mixed conditions of Q2, and as a result started Sunday's race from P13 on the grid. He went on to retire from the Grand Prix after only eight laps due to a mechanical issue, later revealed to be a problem with the gearbox. To make matters worse, Perez says that he also sustained a neck injury in his qualifying incident.
