Szafnauer: Piastri will be in F1 next season

Article To news overview © XPB Otmar Szafnauer believes that Alpine junior driver Oscar Piastri will be racing in Formula 1 next season. The 21-year-old Australian rose to prominence over the last couple of years by winning both the Formula 3 and Formula 2 titles in 2020 and 2021 respectively. Piastri was unable to secure a seat on the F1 grid for the 2022 season, but was signed as an Alpine reserve driver following his championship-winning F2 campaign. Piastri had been mooted as a potential replacement for current Alpine driver Fernando Alonso, should the two-time champion underperform or decide to retire, but neither scenario seems likely to happen.
