Shovlin: Mercedes forced Red Bull to take some risks

Falling short in Austin, Andrew Shovlin says Mercedes can draw some positives from forcing Red Bull into taking 'risks' with Max Verstappen's strategy. Although Mercedes' weekend at the Circuit of The Americas got off to a perfect start, with a 1-2 in Friday's first practice, that was the last time they would top a session. Red Bull came to the fore with Sergio Perez quickest in FP2 and FP3 before Verstappen secured pole position, 0.209s quicker than Lewis Hamilton. The following day he beat Mercedes to the race win, Red Bull's first at COTA, Verstappen 1.333s ahead of Hamilton.
