The pair compromised each other in qualifying at Zandvoort when Schumacher overtook Mazepin on the out lap, which upset the Russian driver. In the race, Schumacher attempted to overtake Mazepin down the main straight on the second lap, only for Mazepin to aggressively chop across the front of his car.
