Sainz's hails 'special' debut as Ferrari fire up

errari's new 2021 signing Carlos Sainz has kickstarted his career in red with a first appearance in one of the legendary F1 team's cars at Fiorano. Sainz has joined Ferrari for 2021 from McLaren as replacement for four-time world champion Sebastian Vettel, and made his debut on Wednesday as part of the team's week-long programme - albeit in a three-year-old car. The Spaniard took over from Charles Leclerc, who returned to action in the 2018 car on Tuesday. With Sainz watching on in his new team colours, Leclerc completed over 100 laps in the SF71-H with Ferrari saying he worked on "practice starts and work aimed at the new championship and pre-season testing".
