Wolff: F1 must avoid mistake of 11 years ago with new engine

Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff has urged Formula 1 to avoid the 'mistake of 11 years ago' by coming up with a more cost-effective power-unit. The sport is scheduled to introduce a new engine formula in 2026, although there have been suggestions that it could be brought forward to 2025. Mercedes have dominated the sport since the V6 turbo-hybrid power-units were brought in for the 2014 season, but the cost associated with building and developing these engines remain prohibitive to new suppliers.
