Wolff charmed by Russell's PowerPoint poise
Toto Wolff has described the time George Russell convinced him he was a Mercedes driver of the future – when he walked into his office aged 15. Russell made his debut for the World Champions in the 2020 Sakhir Grand Prix, standing in for Lewis Hamilton who had tested positive for COVID-19, and would probably have pulled off a remarkable victory but for a pit-stop blunder by the team and subsequent slow puncture. In the medium-to-long term, the 22-year-old Briton is likely to become a full-time Mercedes driver because, although he remains ‘on loan’ at Williams for 2021, he has a lengthy contract under the management of the German manufacturer’s team principal and co-owner Wolff.
