On an oddly quiet day in race history, Niki Lauda led Clay Regazzoni to a Ferrari 312T2 1-2 over Jacques Laffite’s Ligier Matra in the 1976 Grand Prix of Belgium. Michael Schumacher then broke Lauda’s win record to become Ferrari’s most successful ever driver with his 16th victory in red over teammate Eddie Irvine and Mika Häkkinen’s McLaren Mercedes at Monaco 1999. Mark Webber beat Red Bull Renault teammate Sebastian Vettel and Robert Kubica’s Renault to be the first Australian to win the Monaco Grand Prix since Sir Jack Brabham in 1959 as he moved into the lead in the 2010 world championship standings.
