Mercedes won't give up DAS advantage on threat of protest

Mercedes will race DAS at the Australian Grand Prix with a team spokesperson saying it would be 'unreasonable' to give up that advantage just because Red Bull are threatening to protest. Mercedes debuted DAS – dual axis steering – during pre-season testing at the Circuit de Catalunya. The system, which changes the toe of the front wheels, is dictated by the driver pushing or pulling on the steering wheel. It is thought that DAS not only improves cornering but also helps with speed down the straights and negates tyre wear. Mercedes insisted from the get-go that is legal.
