Perez: McLaren season damaged by reputation

Signing with McLaren for just one season, Sergio Perez reckons that move 'damaged my reputation in Formula 1' and cost him a shot at a Ferrari drive. Perez entered Formula 1 in 2011 with Sauber with the Hinwill team's connections to Ferrari meaning Perez was also handed a place in the Scuderia's driver academy. But despite the team's ties to Ferrari, and rumours linking the Mexican driver to the team, he opted to sign with McLaren for 2013. That year was a disaster. Although Perez scored points in 11 grands prix, he didn't reach the podium – neither did his team-mate Jenson Button.
