Claire Williams has stated that Williams Martini Racing “will close” if a proposed budget cap doesn’t come to fruition in 2021. Formula 1 owners Liberty Media presented their plan for the 2021 regulations to all the teams shortly before the 2018 Bahrain Grand Prix. High on the agenda was a budget cap that restricted team spending, allowing for smaller teams such as Williams to narrow the gap to the sport’s top three.
