Alonso's Indy drive part of the ‘bigger picture'

McLaren have all but confirmed that the decision to permit Fernando Alonso to run at this year's Indy 500 is part of the plan to get him to re-sign with the team. It was announced earlier this week that Alonso will skip May's Monaco Grand Prix in order to bid for the 101st Indianapolis 500 title. It is an unusual move allowing a driver to step away from the car but there is method to McLaren's thinking.
