Sauber’s technical director Jörg Zander is hopeful that the team can return to fight in Formula 1’s midfield this year, but is “realistic” that such ambitions may take time. Sauber has spent the bulk of its 24-year spell in Formula 1 racing in the midfield, but has slipped back across recent season, finishing 10th in the standings in both 2014 and 2016, its lowest ever classification.
