Red Bull reveal Williams upgrade inspiration

Despite leading the F1 title race comfortably, Red Bull continues to look up and down the grid for new aerodynamic solutions.

Red Bull Chief Engineer Paul Monaghan has revealed the team's latest upgrade for the RB19 was inspired by back-of-the-grid Williams.

The Milton Keynes-based outfit has been dominant so far this season, securing victory in each of the opening seven races of the campaign to race into a 135-point advantage over second-place Mercedes in the Constructors' standings.

But in the pursuit of perfection, Red Bull designers - led by Adrian Newey - have cast an eye on the opposition to continue to add performance.

This exploration is spread across the field and Monaghan has confirmed Red Bull's latest diffuser solution took inspiration from Williams, which has scored only one point compared to the championship-leading tally of 287.

Our currency is lap time

"You can't assume that you have the best solution in all areas of the car when you first put the car on the ground," Monaghan told media, including RacingNews365.com.

"Our currency is lap time and that piece of floor design, that was out early-2022. I recall the Williams had it quite early on, some other people had it.

"It didn't necessarily work for us, we've looked at it a couple of times and it's a small benefit - it looks like a slightly larger change than is actually realised.

"It's coming towards the back of the floor so it is not going to be the most influential thing. It helps a little bit. You are quite constrained, if you look height-wise, where we can do it.

"So it's been there for a while in our work so we were in a position where we could include that in that bit of the floor, and we've done it."
